Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Use the Shortcuts app (most flexible)
Open the Shortcuts app. Tap the + button to create a new shortcut. Add the action 'Get Images from Input'. Add 'Convert Image' and set it to JPEG. Add 'Save to Photo Album' or 'Save File'. Save the shortcut and name it PNG to JPG. Go to Photos, select a PNG, tap Share → your new shortcut. It converts and saves the JPG to your camera roll or Files.

Use an online converter in Safari
Open Safari and go to formatdrop.com. Tap the image converter, then the upload button. In the photo picker, select your PNG. After conversion, tap the download link. The JPG appears in your Downloads folder in Files. Tap and hold to Save to Photos if needed. This requires no app installation.

Use a converter app from the App Store
Apps like Image Converter — Photo Resizer or JPEG Converter from the App Store convert PNG to JPG directly on your iPhone. Install, open your PNG, choose JPEG output, and save. Most free apps work without watermarks for basic conversions.

Quick share workaround
Open the PNG in Photos, tap Share → Mail and email it to yourself. iOS compresses the attachment as JPG in many cases. Or AirDrop the PNG to a nearby Mac and convert it there with Preview. Not elegant, but useful when you only need to convert one file quickly.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
Converting PNG screenshots or downloaded images to JPG on iPhone is useful for saving storage, sharing smaller files via iMessage or WhatsApp, and uploading to social media with faster speeds.
Your files never leave your device
FormatDrop runs the conversion engine entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. No file upload. No server. Nothing stored. You can verify this by opening DevTools → Network tab and watching: zero upload requests.
