Step-by-step instructions
- 1
Upload your MOBI file
Select your .mobi file. Non-DRM MOBI files (personal documents, sideloaded books, books downloaded as MOBI) convert cleanly. Amazon KFX-format Kindle purchases require stripping DRM first (see FAQ).
Go to converter - 2
Choose EPUB as output format
Select EPUB. The converter parses the MOBI structure — chapters, table of contents, fonts, images, and metadata — and writes them into a valid EPUB3 or EPUB2 file.
- 3
Verify the EPUB on your reader
Transfer the EPUB to your Kobo, sideload into Apple Books, or open in a desktop reader like Calibre's E-book Viewer. Check that chapters appear correctly in the table of contents and that images render properly.
Why convert MOBI to EPUB?
MOBI is Kindle's proprietary format; EPUB is the format the rest of the world uses. Converting MOBI to EPUB is the declaration of reader independence — your book, your device.
Your files never leave your device
FormatDrop runs the conversion engine entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. No file upload. No server. Nothing stored. You can verify this by opening DevTools → Network tab and watching: zero upload requests.
