How to Convert Keynote to PowerPoint PPTX

Keynote (.key) is Apple's presentation software, with a beautiful UI and smooth animations — but only macOS and iOS open .key files natively. To present from a Windows laptop, share with non-Apple users, or import into Google Slides, you need PPTX format. Keynote's PPTX export is generally good for simple presentations but may simplify some Keynote-specific animations.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

    Open the file in Keynote

Double-click your .key file. The presentation opens with all slides, animations, and transitions visible.

    Go to converter
  2. 2

    Export to PowerPoint

Mac: File → Export To → PowerPoint. iOS: tap the three-dot menu → Export → PowerPoint. The export creates a .pptx file in the location you choose.

  3. 3

Open in PowerPoint or Google Slides

The PPTX file opens in Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, LibreOffice Impress, and any modern presentation tool. Share via email or cloud storage.

Frequently asked questions

Will my animations and transitions convert?
Standard animations (fade, slide, dissolve) convert reliably. Keynote-specific animations (Magic Move, Object Transformations) may convert to PowerPoint approximations or simplify to fade transitions. Review the PPTX in PowerPoint to catch any changes.
Can I convert without a Mac?
Use iCloud.com → Keynote → upload your .key file → File → Download a Copy → PowerPoint. Works in any browser. No Mac required, just an Apple ID.
Why does my Keynote look different in PowerPoint?
Fonts may not match if the recipient's system doesn't have Keynote's default fonts (San Francisco, etc.). Layout may shift with substitute fonts. For guaranteed visual fidelity, export to PDF instead — but you lose editability.
